Push to enhance ease of doing business: Govt vendor payments to be cleared in 3 days

The Centre plans to clear payments to government vendors and contractors within three working days from August 2026, a move aimed at improving ease of doing business and reducing payment uncertainty.

For MSMEs and startups supplying goods or services to public departments, faster settlement can directly ease working-capital pressure, lower reliance on short-term borrowing, and improve confidence in government procurement and tender participation.

The reform also signals tighter payment discipline across the public sector. Business owners should review invoicing systems, documentation, purchase-order tracking, and compliance readiness so they can benefit from faster processing once the new mechanism is implemented nationwide.
