The government is promoting artificial intelligence adoption among MSMEs through the IndiaAI Mission, which carries an approved outlay of Rs 10,371.92 crore and seeks to improve productivity and competitiveness across sectors.
The mission has seven pillars covering compute capacity, innovation, datasets, application development, future skills, startup financing, and safe and trusted AI. The government also evaluates MSME digital adoption through studies with industry and research institutions, alongside NITI Aayog’s outcome-monitoring framework.
For small businesses and startups, the programme could lower barriers to advanced computing, talent, financing and locally relevant AI solutions. Enterprises should identify practical use cases in quality control, customer service, forecasting and automation, while strengthening data governance and employee skills before making major technology investments.
