A delegation of four members from Laghu Udyog Bharati—Shri Om Prakash Gupta, Smt. Anju Bajaj, Smt. Neha Kaushik, and Smt. Purnima Chaudhary—recently visited the Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute (SSMI) in Punjabi Bagh. During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Sunita Bhasin and Ishika Mam, who introduced us to a variety of ongoing activities at the institute. SSMI is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where women, youth, and children are empowered to achieve their full potential.
The institute offers educational programs ranging from balwadi to primary and secondary schooling, all supported by a well-structured framework with trained teachers and innovative assessment methods. Additionally, SSMI conducts workshops in block printing, textiles, and food production, providing training for interns from various educational institutions.
In the health sector, SSMI offers comprehensive support including laboratory services, surgical interventions, pre- and post-operative counseling, and regular eye checkups for school children in collaboration with AIIMS. In the area of skill development and livelihood, women receive training tailored to the needs of the textile and food production industries, focusing on cultivating entrepreneurial skills. We were impressed to see that the production units are both licensed and certified. The institute also emphasizes the importance of self-care and good hygiene, conducting regular health checks for students along with numerous other related activities.
Laghu Udyog Bharati is enthusiastic about the possibility of collaborating with SSMI on various school projects. These collaborations would focus on raising awareness and developing skills in entrepreneurship and apprenticeship, providing orientation and need-based training, training women's groups in the production of food and textile products, and supporting the development of a knowledge bank. We look forward to a fruitful partnership that enhances the capabilities and opportunities available to our communities.
