Opportunities for MSMEs in Defence Sector
The Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) and the MSME Development & Facilitation Office, Chennai, in collaboration with Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) – Chennai Chapter, recently organized a specialized program focusing on MSME participation in Defence procurement.
The event, titled “Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme for MSMEs in Defence Procurement and MSME Schemes,” was designed to educate MSMEs on business opportunities in the defence sector and the government schemes available to support them.
Key Highlights:
Shri Dr. Verchzhiyan, LUB Tamil Nadu State President, delivered an impressive address emphasizing the potential of LUB members in small component manufacturing for Defence. He urged DGQA to engage more closely with LUB to understand requirements, which could streamline procurement from a significant MSME network.
The President also highlighted the successful Defence Expo organized by LUB in 2022 at Chennai, the first-ever Defence Expo by a MSME organization.
Shri Karthikeyan, LUB Chennai EC Member, coordinated with various industry associations and provided insights on necessary certifications, approvals, and schemes required for Defence procurement.
The program witnessed enthusiastic participation, with over 100 MSMEs attending to explore procurement opportunities and understand the procedural and technical requirements.
This initiative is a step forward in bridging MSMEs with the Defence sector, creating avenues for collaboration, growth, and capacity-building among small and medium enterprises.
